Catholic Campus Ministry

At NCCU

With a Catholic presence on the NCCU campus, the Campus Ministry team seeks to serve the Eagles community in a variety of ways.  Through collaboration with the executive director of the NCCU United Christian Campus Ministry, we participate in campus events, including Bible Study, prayer breakfasts, Martin Luther King Jr. celebrations, ethics workshops and Moral Emphasis Week.  For example, the Catholic chaplain recently gave the reflection and benediction at the 2008 NCCU winter commencement exercises.

Catholic Campus Ministry at NCCU also wishes to gather Catholic staff, faculty and students – undergraduate, graduate and professional – for study of the Catholic social justice tradition, Black Catholic history, and Black Catholic liturgy.

The overall goal is to encourage Catholics to assume leadership in the community and the church.  Thus, we aim to help strengthen the NCCU community through spiritual growth, social events, service projects, spring break mission trips, and studying  issues of social justice and human concern.

fr. Bruce Schultz, OPThe Catholic chaplain is also available for one-on-one counseling and for speaking on panel discussions or other events.

With the help of nearby Holy Cross Catholic Church (2438 South Alston Avenue) , we invite the NCCU community to Sunday worship at a vibrant parish.  Holy Cross parishioners also assist in on-campus worship, such as the Ash Wednesday Service, in the historic old Holy Cross chapel at 1400 South Alston on campus.

The Acacia Tree is native to Africa.  It has deep roots, and survives through drought and famine.  It is a strong tree which provides shelter, food and nourishment.  Since biblical times, the Acacia Tree has been a symbol of stability and resilience.
